The Economics and Public Policy Forum is a monthly discussion group of Booth alumni and students who gather over lunch to discuss a pre-selected topic and reading material. This is a collegial gathering of equals and we do not present speakers. The TOPIC and PRE-READING are:

BANKING: WHICH IS BETTER - BIG OR SMALL?

When it comes to banking, which is better? Large multi-national banks or small community banks? Do large banks create inherent risk? Are large banks "too big to fail"? Are smaller banks the answer or are they "too small to succeed"? With banking margins low, is consolidation necessary to survive and make a profit? Just how are large banks and small banks doing these days? Please read the short articles below (appx. 10 pages total) and join us for a discussion with colleagues over lunch.
